The Adriatic – today, a peaceful and popular vacation spot, but this was not always the case: for centuries, pirates have made sea routes and coasts unsafe. They used the idyllic bays as their hideaways while they boarded and plundered ships on the high seas of the Mediterranean. The governments of Europe sent out corsairs to fight them. However, the line between who was on the side of the law and who was not remained unclear at times. Filmmaker Rudolf Klingohr visits the scenes of former pirate activity and guides us through the turbulent history of the Adriatic and the Mediterranean region. Much of what took place here would do honor to the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
