Fragrances are substances that have powerful abilities to signal, entice and send out messages that have a significant impact on our everyday lives. What drifts around us defines our lives whether we want it or not. As if by remote control, we react to it, align our opinions, our desires and – not infrequently almost as if by force – our actions to it. “Captivated by Fragrance” shows how ubiquitous odours are in our everyday lives, the affect they have on our social behaviour, the role they play in our choice of partners and careers, and what happens to us when we lose our sense of smell. The attempt to pin scent down leads to Grasse, the world capital of perfume, and to Vienna and Marrakesh.
