That Kafka, who came from a German speaking, middle class, Jewish family. Growing up in Prague, then part of the Habsburg Empire. That Franz Kafka, whose sufferings from his earliest childhood at the hands of his strict father had a fundamental effect on him, as he wrote his short stories and novel fragments.
