Franz Kafka can hardly be introduced by means of a simple biography. But listing his works won’t do, either. That would be too cheap and too easy. Franz Kafka has to be defined. Who is Franz Kafka? Only a few decades ago this question would have been perfectly understandable. Because until then this literary figure who is the most widely read of all German language authors was largely unknown. That Kafka, who came from a German speaking, middle class, Jewish family. Growing up in Prague, then part of the Habsburg Empire. That Franz Kafka, whose sufferings from his earliest childhood at the hands of his strict father had a fundamental effect on him, as he wrote his short stories and novel fragments. But the documentary will also show how often Kafka is performed at the theatre. Even at a youth theatre, with 14 year old actors.
