This transnational discovery tour takes the viewer from the highest peaks between the German state of Bavaria and the Austrian state of Salzburg to cows on boats and the largest ice cave in the world: This visually stunning new “Land der Berge” production goes across the Watzmann massif in Berchtesgadener Land and finally leads to Hochkönig, the highest peak in the Berchtesgaden Alps, which rises majestically in the border region between Bavaria and Salzburg. Crossing many peaks, the Watzmann Traverse is one of the great high alpine challenges in the Berchtesgaden Alps, along with the legendary Watzmann East Face. Those who make it from Hocheck over the long, exposed ridge to the South Peak can consider themselves among the mountaineering elite. Further down, at the glittering Lake Königssee, one can see the unique driving down of cattle from the mountain pastures into the valley: As access to the Saletalm and the Fischunkelalm is fairly arduous, the cows unceremoniously take the direct route across the lake on boats. The town of Bad Reichenhall with its excellent air has been attracting spa lovers from near and far for more than 150 years. And just as many guests flock annually to the neighboring city of Salzburg, known for Mozart, and to the Eisriesenwelt in Werfen – a natural limestone and ice cave. From here, the nearby Hochkönig completes the circle on this journey through the Berchtesgaden Alps.
