Microplastics found in fish, coupled with the overfishing of oceans, has led many people to shift away from mass-caught fish, opting instead for organically sourced alternatives. However, what does this really mean for the health of consumers and for production methods? The organic label presupposes controlled farming. Organic fish comes from aquacultures – farming conditions that have long been the subject of criticism. Here too, seawater with its high microplastic content circulates and antibiotics are administered to combat fungi and viruses in the confined biotope. So, is organic fish really the solution? Where does it really come from and what are the working conditions like there?
