Osteoporosis is a widespread condition that often goes unrecognized. But in the wake of long Covid, it has come to the fore: the symptoms of osteoporosis are characterized by loss of bone density, structure and strength. It is the most common metabolic bone disease. Around 750.000 people are affected by osteoporosis in Austria, 83% of whom are women. According to the statistics, 4 out of 10 women and 2 to 3 out of 10 men will suffer an osteoporosis-related fracture in the course of their life. These can have dramatic consequences: quality of life drops markedly since sufferers’ mobility is restricted, and there is an increase in mortality. The costs of initial treatment, aftercare and ongoing care are also enormous. Together with experts, the film investigates new treatments and how to improve diagnosis.
