Fasting is not just an end in itself, of that they are convinced at Geras Abbey in Lower Austria. For many years, the monastery has offered people space and time to fast together and discover many a new perspective. “We have a little motto with us: the door is open, but even more so the heart,” says Conrad Müller, prelate of the Premonstratensian monastery of Geras in the Lower Austrian Waldviertel. And indeed: anyone seeking spiritual and physical peace is in the right place at this tranquil and sensually appealing place. For eight years now, Alexander Graffi, a trained fasting leader, has been offering regular fasting retreats directly in the monastery’s guesthouse. Andrea Eder visited a fasting group at Geras Abbey and spoke with them about their motives and insights.
