European flora is getting out of balance. Unwittingly introduced plant species are increasing at an alarming rate. They are taking over the habitat of the hitherto predominant plants. Many of the foreign plants originate from far away countries and have hardly any natural enemies in Central Europe. They are also often poisonous. The newcomers threaten valuable biotopes in France and Germany and cause Europe-wide economic damage to the tune of billions, due not least to the ex-pensive attempts to curb the situation.
