Nine-year-old Emily is diagnosed with a rare and so far, incurable illness. When researching their daughter’s illness, Nicole and Michael Wagner discover that a small pharmaceutical company from Berlin is working on a cure and that people in Asia have already been tested. It seems that the progression of the disease can be slowed, maybe even stopped. The Wagners contact the new CEO of the company, Dr. Julia Schemmel, and present their demands: a study on children in Germany, and an early release of the drug, which has not been finalised. But Julia is supposed to consolidate the company, planning to float the company on the market. The risk of untested exposure is too high and could mean cancelling the drug altogether – which would also mean that a cure would be further out of reach.
