A Sloth Story

1 x 50 min

In the dense rainforest of Guyana lives Slotty, a rare pale-throated sloth. After heavy rainfall, her tree collapses, sending Slotty crashing to the ground—injured and helpless. For a sloth, this can be a life-threatening situation. But there is hope: the experienced indigenous wildlife carer Luana takes the weakened animal into her care. Slotty presents her with a unique challenge: pale-throated sloths have a highly specialised diet and feed only on the leaves of certain tree species. Will Luana manage to find enough food to save Slotty from starvation? As Slotty slowly regains her strength, the documentary provides an in-depth look into the fascinating world of sloths. It reveals their remarkable survival strategies, proving that behind their seemingly sluggish lifestyle lies a perfectly adapted way of life— from their unique camouflage in the dense canopy to the rare and risky moments when they descend to the forest floor. Yet, no matter how much Luana grows attached to Slotty, she knows that her mission is to return the sloth to the wild. When the day of farewell arrives, the camera captures this emotional moment—a moving testament to the deep bond between humans and animals and proof that, in the jungle, survival depends on more than just speed.
