Christmas – THE highlight of the year for many children and adults. A festively decorated Christmas tree is probably the most important symbol of this time of year. For the younger archdukes and archduchesses, too, Christmas was likely something very special. But in the 18th and 19th century, Christmas looked very different – and even the traditional Christmas tree, which seems so central to today’s celebrations, has not been part of Austrian tradition for very long…. How was Christmas celebrated in the imperial family and which member of the family brought the Christmas tree to the Viennese court? The film traces the transformation of Christmas across recent centuries and situates the imperial family at the center of the celebrations.
