Cosmetics are often considered synonymous with international mass-produced goods. Yet, in Austria, an independent industry is emerging. In the shadow of global cosmetic corporations, local businesses are establishing themselves with nature-based products. Successful and increasingly visible to the public. Alexander and Nadeschda Schukoff embark on a quest in the Alpine country of Austria, exploring herb gardens, workshops, laboratories, and monastery libraries, observing the masters of their craft. Impressive close-ups are shown when care oils are mixed, skin creams stirred, or toothpaste and makeup, among other things, are produced. Some secrets are also revealed: How are plant extracts, essential oils, or bee products processed into cosmetics? What is behind the art of perfume making? And which of Leonardo da Vinci’s insights remain an essential part of perfume and cosmetic production today? In addition to its depth of content, the film also offers a visual experience: A journey through Austria’s diverse landscapes – from dense forests to fragrant lavender fields, lush Alpine meadows, and the rolling vineyards along the Danube.
