Annie Breuer, a single mother in her mid-30s, lives with her two children, Lena and Tino, in the top floor of an old apartment building in the suburbs of Vienna. At times, she doubts whether she can handle the various tasks and challenges life throws at her. She has better and worse days, and sometimes she feels like a dark shadow seems to hang over her mood and the whole world. Just when it seems like she can no longer fulfill her duties as a mother, an old saying proves true: It takes a village – or in this case, an apartment building – to raise children. With combined efforts, it’s easier to overcome the various obstacles that fate presents. When it matters most, the residents come together and show that humor can make even the darkest hours easier to bear.
