74-year-old rest home resident Danijel Filipovic dies under suspicious circumstances when his carer is forced to leave him alone, having just helped the old man into the bathtub using a mobility lift. The carer would never normally leave somebody unattended, but the home is understaffed and he has to deal with a fire alarm. When he returns, he finds Danijel Filipovic drowned in the bath tub, potentially as a result of foul play. The detectives Moritz Eisner and Bibi Fellner take the case and find themselves investigating in an environment that provides few clues to possible motives. With a little perseverance, empathy and investigative skill, the detectives are soon immersed in the world of old age care. It is a sobering experience: the suspects include Danijel’s daughter, who had a difficult relationship with her father but visited him on the day of his death, as well as a carer with a criminal past who Danijel frequently treated badly. The roots of their animosity would appear to lie in a shared past. The rest home employees are at breaking point due to staff shortages and overwork. It wouldn’t be the first time that carers simply can’t cope anymore…
