The dead body of the environmental politician Konrad Schett is found in Tyrol’s Tristacher Lake. It looks like he may have been drinking and drowned, but the autopsy reveals a surprisingly low blood alcohol level. Schett had been at a meeting with financial authorities from various regions before leaving to travel to a remote valley. He never arrived. Now, investigators Martin Steiner and Melanie Grandits are tasked with examining the case – even though it is unclear whether a crime has even been committed. When they realize that Schett didn’t fall into the water drunk, as had initially been assumed, but was rather already dead when his body entered the lake, the investigation picks up steam. First Martin and then Melanie find themselves investigating a headstrong, insular village community that appears willing to do anything to prevent any more inhabitants from leaving.
