He was a man of his time, but also ahead of it: Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi. During the interwar period, he campaigned tirelessly for a democratic, peaceful Europe guided by the principles of human rights. His Paneuropean Union, founded in 1923, was the first European unification movement.
