Viennese composer Marianna von Martines has only recently appeared in music research, although she was famous during her lifetime and, as a restless salonière, promoted and supported musicians like Ludwig van Beethoven. Her story is brought to life in an audiovisual journey of discovery by means of re-enactment, but also viewed from the perspective of today’s Viennese composer, Johanna Doderer, and various music historians. A look at the social and musical history of 18th-century Vienna opens up a world in which female talents in music and the arts found it difficult or impossible to step into the limelight to pursue a career.
