Salmon was once a delicacy, today it’s more of a mass product. One of the reasons being the fact that it is bred in aquacultures and is therefore cheaper than, for example, cod or halibut. However, in the past few years, farmed salmon has come into disrepute – on the basis of the amounts of antibiotics and pesticides used in aquacultures. The medium, with which the feed is made durable, was also used as a plant protection product and has since actually been banned in Europe.
