The Alviano Oasis is one of the most important wet areas in central Italy, as well as one of the richest when it comes to bio-diversity. Each year, hundreds of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and insects find shelter and sustenance in this unique ecosystem, that constantly changes through seasons and through man’s actions. This documentary takes a close look at the life and work of Alessio Capoccia, the oasis supervisor, and of his collaborators that take care of managing, maintaining, monitoring and educating about this magical place. Discover the secrets and the marvels of the marshland, where flamingos, herons, ducks and kingfishers can be observed and photographed along many other species. Meet Settimio, an enthusiastic researcher and explorer of the area, that guides through the history and the many transformations of this territory, that changed so much through the centuries thanks to the intervention of both man and nature. At last, meet Devis Feliziani, one of the engineers that oversees the maintenance of the two dams, the Alviano and Corbara ones, that artificially created such a unique place as the Alviano Oasis. He reveals the inner workings of the dams as well as their vital role in the safeguarding of the river and the surrounding areas. The conclusion is a reflection on the importance of the relationship between man and nature, and on the necessity of protecting and promoting this natural heritage.
