Why has the music of Johann Strauss Sr., Johann Strauss Jr. and Eduard Strauss proved so universally popular? This film explores this and many other questions relating to the Strauss dynasty in an entertaining, engaging manner. The journey begins in Austria’s capital and accompanies Vienna’s Johann Strauss Orchestra on its world tour through Korea, China, Mexico, Japan and Germany. Musicologists and historians reveal the fascinating history of the Strauss compositions and introduce the viewers to lesser-known members of the Strauss family – including the women who worked tirelessly in the background. A particularly interesting element is an investigation into how the Strauss music may sound in the future: the film accompanies a ground-breaking project of Linz’s Ars Electronica museum and Vienna’s University of Music and Performing Arts, during which Artificial Intelligence is used to create a new Johann Strauss Jr. composition.
