On May 8, 1945, Austria’s Immendorf castle went up in flames. Inside were a number of valuable artistic treasures, including Gustav Klimt’s renowned “Faculty Paintings”. His works “Philosophy”, “Jurisprudence”, and “Medicine” were allegedly lost to the flames. According to official accounts, the fire was started by a squadron of SS members. However, to this day, there is no proof that the artworks were actually destroyed. With no eyewitness accounts and no examination of the ruins and ashes left by the fire, speculation about what happened all those years ago remains rife: Were the masterpieces, perhaps, saved after all? This documentary investigates one of the great mysteries in the history of art.
