This documentary explores the impact that poverty can have on health. Poor nutrition, limited access to medical care, and constant stress mean that people at risk of poverty are more likely to fall ill and suffer more severe health problems. Social and community participation is often restricted from a young age, which can also negatively affect mental health. Through personal stories of those affected, as well as insights from doctors, social workers, and social institutions, the film illustrates how social inequality creates a vicious cycle in which poverty and illness reinforce each other. The example of Cape 10, known as the “House of Good Hope”, demonstrates that health should not be a privilege, offering low-threshold health services to those in need.
