This documentary examines the fascinating life of Friedrich Schächter, the Viennese inventor and businessman. Working together with Paul C. Fisher, Schächter invented the Space Pen, which allowed the Apollo astronauts to write during their mission. Schächter’s own company helped to develop the legendary BIC ballpoint pens and played an important role in their international success. The film also relates how Schächter fled the National Socialist regime and his new beginnings in Sweden, where he took casual jobs to survive while working on his groundbreaking writing implement. His legacy is proof of his exceptional inventiveness: there are more than 160 patents in his name, and he also developed a ballpoint testing device used around the world.
