Abel and Ursel Hradschek run a small country inn in the Oderbruch region, but the place is not in good shape and highly in debt. The couple is living beyond their means. Abel feels the pressure acutely when one of their creditors announces that he will pay them a visit instead of simply waiting for his money. But then Abel discovers the remains of a dead soldier from World War II under his pear tree and hatches a plan… With the help of his wife he arranges the “perfect murder” of his creditor. And indeed, no one seems to suspect a thing, not even the local police chief who has been secretly favouring Ursel for a while now. But then Ursel starts to have nightmares. And Abel clearly misjudged his neighbour Jeschke and his damn curiosity.
