The police officer Pia Kraus is determined to solve the mysterious disappearance of her 17-year-old niece Amelie. After six months of fruitless searching, Amelie’s dead body is found on the nearby moor. The discovery is devastating for Caro, Amelie’s mother and Pia’s sister. Pia promises to find her niece’s murderer, no matter what it takes. However, she has problems of her own, having been diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s. Her memories begin to fade, and she can no longer trust her own thoughts. Despite the challenges she faces, she continues her investigation, which threatens to tear apart families, friends, and life in a close-knit village. Driven largely by determination, Pia fights to uncover the truth, but the answers she finds bring no peace – for her, or for the village.
Episode 1 – Missing
For six months, life in the small town of Engelsberg has been very different. 17-year-old Amelie has disappeared without a trace. Her aunt, the police officer Pia Kraus, receives a terrible diagnosis: she has early-onset Alzheimer’s, and the symptoms are becoming increasingly noticeable. As she is struggling to come to terms with this news, Amelie’s case takes a turn when a dog makes a discovery on a nearby moor. Pia and her colleague Tarek launch a large search. In the village, several people become increasingly nervous and begin to hide potential evidence. Meanwhile, out on the moor, Pia struggles with her sense of orientation. When the investigators finally find Amelie, they are confronted with a terrible truth.
Episode 2 – Sunk
An examination of Amelie’s body reveals that the young woman has only been dead for a few days, and that she had recently given birth. There is no sign of the baby. Pia throws herself into the search wholeheartedly and stumbles across a clue: a couple with a newborn baby has been seen acting suspiciously in a German clinic. At the same time, Pia’s family life takes a turn for the worse. Her husband Jonas finds a doctor’s letter concerning Pia’s diagnosis. Her son Linus’s world is turned upside down, while her daughter Vivian tries to distract from the terrible news by conducting her own investigation into Amelie’s disappearance. The police are able to track the suspicious couple to an empty restaurant. When they move in, a shot rings out and the situation escalates.

Episode 3 – Hidden
The likely kidnapper of Amelie’s baby is dead, and his wife is in no state to be interrogated. As there is no clear connection to Amelie, the police assume that the couple had nothing to do with her murder. In fact, they increasingly suspect Amelie’s ex-boyfriend Roman, who refuses to take a paternity test. An internet search turns up photos of Amelie posing suggestively. Tarek, Pia’s partner, demands she take a break for her own good. She is clearly overworked and too close to the case. Pia can’t sit around doing nothing and travels to Germany to check whether the police there may have missed something. Sure enough, she finds something that leads back to the town of Engelsberg and to a farm belonging to a man named Axmann.

Episode 5 – Betrayed
There is a struggle between Roman and Broszek at the latter’s house and a gun goes off. Meanwhile, Tarek suspects that there may be something wrong with Pia. He searches her office and finds her notebook. Discovering her secret, he pleads with her to take care of herself. Pia finally tells Caro of her illness and asks her not to tell anyone else. On her way home, she spots something that reminds her of an object Axmann’s mother claimed to have seen on the night in question: a monster with glowing eyes, which suggests reflectors of some kind. Gerry, the manager of the local farm supply store, is brought in for interrogation at Pia’s urging. She is certain he is lying but has no proof.

Episode 6 – Lost
Although Pia has been suspended, she continues her search for Amelie’s murderer and comes across evidence that proves Gerry lied during his interrogation. When she confronts him with his lies during an encounter on the moor, a struggle ensues. Gerry stumbles and is at risk of sinking into the moor. In fear for his life, he admits that Amelie gave birth in his caravan and that there were complications. He continues to deny killing her. Pia tries to get help for Gerry, but gets lost and Gerry dies. Roman’s mother, who has always refused to believe that Roman is the father of Amelie’s baby, has another paternity test done. This time, the result is negative. Pia realizes that the original test was manipulated. And there is only one person who could make that happen. Pia does her best to get a confession, but her sister wants revenge and gets in the way…
