Dieter and Anneliese Pichler return home from a family therapy session with their daughter Flora to find their house on Lake Ossiach unexpectedly abandoned. Everything is dark, the power is out, and the dog appears to have died of thirst. They are shocked to discover that Ludovica, the Italian student who has been staying with them, has vanished without a trace. Chief Inspector Acham, Martina Schober and Christian Rauchenberger from the local police immediately set out to find the missing woman. Before long, a body is found in a nearby mountain pasture: it is Ludovica. Suspicion soon falls on Helge Sabotnik, the pasture’s owner and an eccentric farmer who lives in his own little world. Meanwhile, the Pichler family appears to be falling apart: Flora, the daughter, is being bullied and has developed an eating disorder. Her mother and father, Anneliese and Dieter, are trapped in a complex web of lies, secrets, and betrayal. Everybody seems to have something to hide and their own issues to deal with – including Chief Inspector Acham, who is having problems at home and with her children. The case provides a welcome distraction for Acham, who sets out to solve the mysterious death with her two colleagues, Schober and Rauchenberger.
