In 1938, Austrian composer Victor Urbancic ended up in Iceland of all places while fleeing from the Nazis. Interviews with his daughter Sybill Urbancic, who is accompanying an Iceland tour of a choir from Graz, are used to trace the family’s journey. Urbancic established the first music conservatory on the island, translated the St John Passion into Icelandic, set folk songs to new music and had a significant influence on the Icelandic music scene. The film by director Stephan Herzog accompanies the choir from Graz on their search for traces “To the End of the World” and captures a small but no less fascinating section of Austrian-Icelandic music history.
